Uber driver accidentally shoots juvenile passenger

Adrian Harper told Hollywood, Fla. police he didn't realize he had his finger in the trigger guard as he tried to secure the weapon before picking up two children.

An Uber driver was cited for negligence after accidentally shooting a passenger in the ankle Sunday in Hollywood, Florida. The driver, Adrian Harper, 27, had a juvenile passenger in his car. He told police he stopped to pick up two more passengers who were ride-sharing when he tried to secure his handgun, a police incident report states.

Harper said he didn't realize he had his finger in the trigger guard as he tried to holster the weapon and it fired hitting the passenger behind him in the ankle, the report states. The gun was initially placed on the seat next to Harper's leg.

The juvenile victim told police she was in an Uber pool ride when the bullet went through her right ankle. She was treated and released from the hospital. One of the passengers who was being picked up told police she was loading items into the car when she heard a gunshot. She said she ran to the nearby police department.

Officers arrived on the scene. Harper showed them his concealed carry license and the vehicle was searched. Harper was cited for crimes against person-culpable negligence inflict harm, the report states.
