JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two shootings happened within earshot of one another Sunday, separated by just two blocks.
While the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into both incidents, a woman who works right in the middle of both scenes told First Coast News it’s been a startling day for her.
"I guess I was inside and didn't hear it, then I was outside when I heard the second shots down there," said Tiffanee Owens, who works at a restaurant in the corner of Broadway Avenue and Edgewood Drive in Lackawanna.
She was inside when officers responded to the 3500 block of Broadway Avenue at 12:43 p.m. where a man found was shot. The victim was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Deputies say multiple suspects fled on foot from a vehicle after the shooting.
JSO recovered a van found abandoned in a ditch nearby.
A rifle was also recovered with possible ties to the case.
At 4:30 p.m., another call was made to police after shots were fired at a home on Dennison Street.
Two men were found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. A third man was said to have minor injuries that were not gun-related.
A helicopter canvassed the area for suspects.
Owens says it's the timing of it all that is the most surprising.
"I'm used to seeing a few things happen, but not all at once," she said.
JSO said it’s unknown if the two shootings are related.
