Tip leads police to body buried under trash at Jacksonville apartment complex

The victim was shot multiple times, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A tip called into the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Tuesday led police to an abandoned body that was buried beneath garbage.

The tipster reported the body had been "dumped" behind building No. 16 in the 5200 block of Holly Crest Drive.

Police say the victim was shot multiple times, and died within the last 12 to 24 hours.

The tipster has not been identified, and police do not know who the victim is. There are also no suspects at this time.

The victim is believed to have been shot in a nearby abandoned apartment. Because there were no calls about gunfire in the area and no notifications from gunshot-detecting app ShotSpotter, police do not know when the shooting happened.

Police were searching a creek behind the apartment complex Tuesday in case any evidence had been dumped there.
