JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested two teens accused of ramming a patrol car during a miles-long chase Wednesday morning that ended when police ran their vehicle off the road, authorities said.
The suspects, identified only as an 18-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, face auto theft charges, but additional charges could be filed, JSO spokesperson Melissa Bujeda told the Florida Times-Union.
The chase started about 10 a.m. near West Beaver Street and Myrtle Avenue after an officer spotted a grey Honda that had been reported stolen, the T-U reports. Police said the driver refused to stop for the officer, whose lights and sirens were on, in pursuit.
At some point during the chase, the stolen vehicle rammed a patrol car, the TU reports, but the officer inside was not hurt.
According to JSO, police ran the stolen vehicle off the road near Broadway and McDuff. The suspects ditched the vehicle, but were caught by police dogs. The 18-year-old was found hiding in a shed and the 15-year-old was captured nearby.
We'll update this developing story when we learn more.
