Teenage male shot after running away in alleged robbery in Oceanway area of Jacksonville, police say

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the teen was hospitalized but has since been released Thursday morning after he was "grazed" by a bullet in the shooting.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A teenage male was shot after he ran away from two suspects Thursday morning in an alleged attempted robbery that took place in the Oceanway area of Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Richardson says at approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to the 12000 block of Paperbark Place in reference to a "juvenile who is in his late teens, sustaining a gunshot wound."

"The juvenile was transported to a local hospital by family members where he's been treated and released," Richardson said. "One [suspect] is a Hispanic male and [the other] is a black male."

JSO's preliminary investigation into the shooting reveals that the unidentified teen was walking to a Circle K gas station to get snacks and while doing so, he was approached by the two suspects who were in a gray vehicle. The suspects then exited the vehicle, approached the boy, tapped on his pockets while asking him what he had in his possession, and then "several shots were fired" as he ran away after he advised them that he didn't have anything, according to police.

Police say the teen was only "grazed" on his lower leg by gunfire.

Richardson says detectives were on scene following the shooting to speak with witnesses and search the area for possible surveillance video. Anyone with information on the incident can provide information by calling JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
