CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — The Kingsland Police Department arrested a 17-year-old boy Friday after he did not respond to and attempted to elude the Camden County High School Resource Officer during dismissal at the end of the day, according to a news release.
Around 2:05 p.m., the release states that the SRO attempted to make contact with the teen, later identified as Nicholas U. Petiote. The release says Petiote would not respond back to the officer and the SRO says he had never made contact with Petiote on campus before.
As the SRO attempted to ask Petiote why he was on campus, the release states that he "took off on his bicycle." The SRO jumped inside his vehicle and was able to get in front of Petiote, who was riding toward a crowd of students being released, the release mentions.
Police say the actions of Petiote "extremely concerned" the SRO and after Petiote did not stop and respond to the officer's verbal commands, the SRO tased Petiote.
The police department says Petoite faces charges of obstruction of a law enforcement officer and criminal trespass. And after the teen boy was released from the Camden Medical Center for treatment, he was taken to the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
The SRO that was involved in the incident was not injured, nor students or faculty, the release states.
