2 teens shot within hours of each other in Jacksonville

Roughly one hour after a teen was shot while walking in Springfield on Saturday night, a second teen was grazed by a bullet when two men opened fire on a vehicle.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two teens are recovering after sustaining minor gunshot wounds within hours of each other on Saturday night in Jacksonville.

Teen shot while walking in Springfield - Saturday, 8 p.m.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a teen was shot in the foot while walking near 17th Street and Laura Street in Springfield around 8 p.m. Saturday. 

Officers were dispatched to a local hospital where they found a victim in his late teens with a single gunshot wound to the foot. The victim told police he heard gunfire erupt near him, and noticed he was struck by a bullet. 

He flagged down a passing vehicle that took him to the hospital. 

JSO said no crime scene related to the shooting was located, and there is no suspect information.

Violent crime detectives are currently investigating.

Then, roughly an hour later, police said a victim in his late teens was grazed by a bullet on West 23rd Street and Mecca Street. 

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to treat the victim, but he was not taken to a local hospital.

Police said the initial investigation showed that two suspects wearing dark clothing were shooting at a vehicle and during the exchange, the victim was shot. 

Right now, it is unclear if the target vehicle was also returning gunfire at the time the victim was struck.

No nearby homes or vehicles were struck as a result of the shooting.

JSO says the vehicle involved is a dark sedan of an unknown model or make.

Violent Crimes Detectives canvased the area for possible witnesses and surveillance video.

The investigation remains ongoing.
