Video: Teen accused of firing flare gun at field during soccer match in Bradenton

A video shows the flare dropping from the sky and nearly hitting players during the game. The incident caused more than $1,000 in damages.

BRADENTON, Fla. — A teen boy was arrested for allegedly shooting a flare gun onto a soccer field during a game at a private school in Bradenton.

The incident happened on Nov. 21 after the suspect, a 16-year-old who didn't attend the school, was asked to leave the game "due to disruptive behavior," the Bradenton Police Department said in a news release.

The teen and his friends reportedly left the school's property and returned to their car, which was parked at a nearby restaurant. That was when he drove around and fired the flare gun from the passenger seat toward the field, police said.

Video of the game shows the flare dropping from the sky and nearly hitting players before burning two holes in the artificial turf, causing more than $1,000 in damages.

After questioning, police said the teen admitted to firing the flare gun and was arrested on Monday, Dec. 9. He is charged with criminal mischief and culpable negligence, according to the department.

That teen was taken to the juvenile detention center.
