JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An 11-year-old student is facing "potential criminal charges" after they brought a loaded gun to Beauclerc Elementary School in Jacksonville Monday morning, according to Duval County Public Schools.
In a message from Beauclerc Elementary School Principal Matt Walker to families, the principal says school staff became aware of the gun after receiving a report from another student.
Walker says in addition to possessing the gun, the unknown student allegedly made threats of harm to another student. He says the student is "in the process of being arrested."
"We will also pursue the appropriate school disciplinary consequences," Walker said.
Walker said in the message that law enforcement is/was on campus investigating the incident.
"While I am very disappointed in this student’s actions, I am also thankful to the student who reported the firearm to our staff," Walker said. "See something, say something remains one of our best tools in identifying safety concerns. Today's unfortunate incident shows why that is so critical. Please encourage your children to say something if they see something. Thank you for your understanding and for your partnership in keeping Beauclerc a safe environment for all. Goodbye."

In addition to potential criminal charges, we will also pursue the appropriate school disciplinary consequences.
