ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Two men are in custody after the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said they stole catalytic converters from businesses and were charged with 67 felonies and two misdemeanors.

On Sunday, deputies responded to a burglary in progress at Carpet One on U.S. 1, a post from the agency said.

Several suspects attempted to flee in a vehicle when deputies arrived. The vehicle was later blocked by a patrol car, and the suspects — 25-year-old Raymond Vega and 20-year-old Aaron Dean —  fled on foot into a nearby wooded area and were quickly taken into custody.

Eight fleet vehicles at Carpet One/Ancient City Group had catalytic converters cut out. The cut catalytic converters and burglary tools were found inside the suspects' vehicle, the post said.

Vega and Dixon were charged with burglary, grand theft, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen catalytic converters and resisting an officer without violence for 67 total felony charges. Both men traveled from Miami to St. Johns County to commit the offenses, the post said.

The investigation is ongoing.
