Sheriff | Son shoots father in Baker County domestic incident

A son fired shots into a vehicle hitting his father who was reportedly trying to run over him and his mother.

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. — A Baker County man was flown by helicopter to a Jacksonville hospital after being shot by his son at about 12:47 a.m. Tuesday. Baker County deputies were responding to the home on Doyle Williams Road in Sanderson for a disturbance when they received another call stating that someone had been shot at the residence.

"Detectives learned that there was a physical domestic disturbance at the residence between a husband and his wife,"  Baker County Sheriff's Office stated in a Facebook post. "The wife was allegedly being physically battered by her husband. An adult son, who also lives at the residence, intervened to protect his mother."

The father and son then got into a fight, the post states. The father got into a vehicle and tried to run his wife and son over, the post states. The son got a gun and shot him, the post states.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to the crime scene. A Baker County sheriff's lieutenant discussed the case with the Assistant State Attorney and no arrests were made, "at this time," the sheriff's office Facebook post states.

Authorities did not state the father's condition.
