SJSO: 17-year-old arrested, accused of being shooter in July Ponte Vedra shooting at community pool

St. Johns County Fire Rescue told First Coast News after the shooting happened a person was airlifted from the scene.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office (SJSO) said Monday that a 17-year-old has been arrested in connection to a July shooting that happened in the parking lot of a community pool in Ponte Vedra Beach.

According to the sheriff's office, the 17-year-old is the accused shooter in the incident. They were taken into custody in California on Monday and have been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted robbery with a firearm.

The sheriff's office mentioned at the time of the incident that the teen may have fled the area.

SJSO previously said someone in a black Honda Civic shot a 20-year-old man who was outside the car, as the vehicle drove off thereafter.

The shooting happened on July 17 at the Walden Chase Amenity Center. A person was taken to a local hospital by a helicopter from the scene.

The U.S. Marshals Service have joined SJSO in the investigation.

First Coast News is not naming the teen accused in the crime due to the nature of the charges and their age.
