JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said two men were injured in a shooting at the Huron-Sophia Apartments on Jacksonville's Westside.
JSO responded to a shooting at 3:27 p.m. and said one man was in critical condition after being shot in the chest, stomach, and arm. The other man was in non-life-threatening condition.
Police said an argument led up to the shooting.
“We have video surveillance of the argument detectives are reviewing it right now to see exactly what the argument was about," JSO Sergeant Richardson said.
It's the third shooting at the apartment complex in the last six months.
In February, 2 people were shot. In October, 1 person was killed.
“It is a concern that we have, like I say detectives are reviewing the past shootings to see if there's any type of connection," Sgt. Richardson said.
Neighbors told First Coast News police are constantly at the complex.
First Coast News Crime and Safety expert, Mark Baughman, said there are ways to drive crime out of apartment complexes.
“A number of apartments throughout Jacksonville, over the last 10 years or so, have hired courtesy officers to either live there in the apartment, where they get some type of discount for living there, or they get compensated in some way," Baughman said.
Baughman said a JSO officer having a 24-hour presence can make a big difference.
“The cars there and the officers right there on scene. So that's going to, I think, in my mind, that'll deter a lot of that activity.”
First Coast News reached out to JSO asking if it has a courtesy officer at the complex and is waiting to hear back.
First Coast News On Your Side's Andrew Badillo attempted to speak with someone who was identified as the manager of the complex but was asked to leave.
