JACKSONVILLE, Fla — One man is dead and another is in critical condition Sunday after the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said they were shot in the parking lot of a Checkers in the city's New Town neighborhood.
JSO says it was alerted via ShotSpotter that 10 rounds were fired in the 1500 block of Kings Road at 4:50 p.m. Minutes later, the sheriff's office said it received a 911 call in reference to two people shot in a black four-door sedan in the parking lot of the Checkers on Kings Road and Whitney Street.
Once at the scene, officers found two men between the ages of 20 and 25 years old inside the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, according to JSO. Police said the shooting took place in the back section of the parking lot. The victims tried to flee but crashed in the parking lot, JSO said.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene and rushed both men to UF Health where one man was pronounced dead and another is in critical condition.
