Police: Jacksonville security guard robbed for pistol, 'severely' beaten in head with hammer

The security guard is a man in his 50s, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A security guard for an apartment complex in Downtown Jacksonville was robbed and "severely" beaten with a hammer Sunday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Dukes says at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to Franklin Arms Apartments, located at 888 Franklin St., in reference to the man in his 50s who had been robbed.

The "attack" happened at 10:10 p.m., according to JSO.

Dukes says the man was robbed of his pistol and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. His identity was not released by police.

"It is early in the investigation and we are working through interviews and evidence to identify the suspect," Dukes told First Coast News.
