POMONA PARK, Fla. — A woman is recovering in the hospital after she was the victim of a road rage shooting by a Pomona Park man Tuesday night, deputies say.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a road rage incident around 6:45 p.m. where a woman was shot after the two drivers left their vehicles. The victim was shot in her lower abdomen and was taken via air ambulance to a local hospital, a news release said.
A passenger and a child in the vehicle with the victim told deputies the road rage incident began near the Dollar General in Pomona Park when a blue sedan began tailgating and both vehicles started chasing each other at high rates of speed near Lake Como Drive, according to the sheriff's office.
Keith Shaulis, 56, was charged with aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and a weapon offense — missile into vehicle.
When the victim got out of the vehicle and walked toward Shaulis, who also stopped his vehicle and expressed profanities toward the victim, the passenger told deputies he heard four shots and Shaulis left the scene. The passenger told deputies he believed the suspect to be local due to now he navigated the neighborhood roads.
Detectives found Shaulis on Tuesday, but not his vehicle, so they released him due a lack of evidence.
On Wednesday, deputies found a blue Kia Forte registered to Shaulis parked in Crescent City, 197 Rosewalk Lane, and a shell casing matching casings found at the scene. The car also had damage consistent with gunshot damage, deputies said.
Booked at 1:36 a.m. Thursday, Shaulis was taken to the Putnam County Jail and held without bond.
