JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was arrested Tuesday for a deadly July 2022 hit-and-run crash in Woodstock, a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrest report states.
Bre'yonna Jackson, 24, faces a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death, a first-degree felony, according to the report.
Police said officers responded to a crash around 10 p.m. on July 15, 2022, near the intersection of Edgewood Avenue North and Broadway Avenue. The report states a woman was crossing Edgewood Avenue North inside a crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle.
A witness told police the woman appeared to have dropped something on the roadway and went to pick it up before she was struck and killed. The report states the vehicle had driven through a red light at the time of the crash.
Police said the suspect vehicle, a red Mazda 3, was found the next morning after reports of a "suspicious vehicle." Officers noted the vehicle had noticeable damage to its hood and windshield and "what appeared to be blood," according to the report.
"Due to the circumstances of the crash and the extent of the damage, a reasonable person would have known that she [Jackson] had struck a person," the report states.
Jackson is being held in Duval County jail on a more than $100,000 bond.
