JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The video attached to this story is from a previous, related report.
The arrest report for one of the brothers arrested for a fatal shooting at Ginnie Springs reveals new details about the crime. The shooting happened just after midnight June 25, during a busy Memorial Day weekend at the springs. A 34-year-old man from Jacksonville, Koty Stewart, was killed.
Eighteen-year-old Fisher Watts was arrested on first-degree murder charges in Stewart's death. His brother, Dallas Watts, was also arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The report, by the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office, reveals Dallas Watts told police his brother shot Stewart. He said his "brother is crazy and he (Dallas) had nothing to do with the shooting of the victim," the arresting officer wrote.
It also describes a narrative of what happened that day: A witness told police that the group he was with, including Stewart, had been in a fight with the Watts brothers and the group they were with hours before the shooting. After the fight, both parties "shook hands," and went about their business. The witness said that later that night, he heard gunshots.
According to the report, the witness then saw Stewart on the ground next to Dallas Watts's truck. He said he saw Dallas Watts waving a gun around, but "felt like Dallas was trying to make sure his brother, Fisher, was okay."
The arrest report says witnesses, as well as officers, saw Dallas Watts watching them investigate the scene from behind a tree. Officers recognized him from a video of the fight from earlier.
He was able to be arrested after he was taken to the ground and placed in handcuffs. Police said they arrested him in this manner because they didn't know if he still had a weapon.
Police say he initially denied knowing anything about the shooting. He told police that he was a convicted felon and was not allowed to have a gun. They then discovered he was convicted in 2021 for robbery by force, which is a felony, and sentenced to 14 years of probation.
He told police he had a 9mm and his brother had a Glock 40 caliber. This is when police say he "confessed" that Fisher Watts shot the victim. He said he jumped out of the truck when he heard the shots.
Police say Fisher Watts fled the scene. He was later arrested in Georgia and taken into custody by the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
