Report: Vehicle stolen from UF Health parking lot located using 'Find My iPhone'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is facing an armed carjacking charge after a woman's vehicle was stolen from a UF Health parking lot on Monday, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Just after 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to UF Health Shands located at 655 8th St. W. in reference to a carjacking.

Security told responding officers that the carjacking had occurred in the "U" parking lot.

The victim's white Volkswagen Taos, cellphone and wallet were stolen, the report states.

When officers located the victim, she told police the suspect had several tattoos on his face and was wearing a black hoodie, according to the report. The victim advised police that she was tracking her phone using the "Find My iPhone" app and got a "ping" at a residence off Acorn Street in the New Town area.

Units responded to the area in search of the vehicle.

Officers located the vehicle as it was traveling on McDuff Avenue, driven by a man who matched the suspect description provided by the victim.

The report states that one responding officer was "forced" to hold the suspect, identified as Edward Colton, 27, and the vehicle at gunpoint until additional units arrived.

Colton was taken into police custody without incident and faces a felony charge of carjacking with a firearm or deadly weapon.
