Joleen Cummings' family will have to wait another month to learn if the woman charged with her murder is competent to stand trial.
After five hours of testimony Friday arguing for and against Kimberly Kessler's competency to stand trial, Cummings' mom Anne Johnson said she wants justice for her daughter's death.
“It’ll be two years in almost two months. I don’t have my daughter, we don’t have justice, that’s all we ask for,” Johnson said.
Kessler is the suspect accused of murdering Yulee mother of three, Joleen Cummings.
She was declared mentally incompetent to stand trial back in July and sent to Florida State Hospital.
During Friday's testimony, a doctor from the Florida State Hospital where Kessler was taken, discussed their interaction.
Dr. Danzer claims that there is no evidence of Kessler being delusional but that she did "have some unusual beliefs."
When speaking with Kessler, Danzer said that Kessler repeatedly brought up the Illuminati.
Danzer asked her if she understood the charges she's facing and the evidence against her and she responded that she did and at one point told the doctor she was innocent.
Dr. Louis Legga, testifying for the defense attorney, said that in his interactions with Kessler she was refusing to talk about the case and had abnormal behavior.
Legga claims that it is a sign of someone who is mentally ill, however, Legga says that Kessler is smart and articulate and estimates she has a 130 IQ.
When asked by state prosecutors about her refusal to discuss the case with him, Legga claimed that Kessler wouldn't talk about the case with him while he was in jail.
State doctors say Kessler would discuss the case with her.
Kessler watched Danzer throughout his entire testimony and stared out of the courtroom window during Legga's testimony.
Last time she was in court, Kessler walked in with what appeared to be a Holy Bible, still wearing a mask from her refusal to submit to necessary health tests.
During Friday's hearings, Kessler also had a new lawyer. Her previous lawyer removed herself from the case after Kessler called her a "piece of garbage" and said she wanted a new one.
Kessler's new lawyer had a different case set for the date of her competency hearing that was scheduled for early February, so Judge James Daniel moved the competency hearing to Feb. 28.
The previous lawyer who removed herself from the case testified for defense attorneys on Friday.
During the testimonies, Teresa Sopp said that when she asked Kessler questions about the case, Kessler would completely change subjects.
She also said Kessler would be difficult to work with any public defender who may be assigned to her case.
Joleen Cummings' mom says she hopes the judge finds Kessler competent to stand trial.
"We’re going to pray over this. Every month we come to court is harder than the last time,” Johnson said.
Judge James Daniel said that he would have a ruling on Kessler’s competency on March 26.
