JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Investigators believe the incident may have started Friday at the Majestic Plaza apartments on Moncrief Road. Residents of the apartments said they had no knowledge of the crime, but were not surprised.
"It is always something out here," a lady who declined to be identified said.
Police said the crime happened around 6 a.m. A victim was beaten and dragged with their feet tied to a van from the apartments to the intersection of 36th and Pearce streets, more than two blocks, they said. Police believe the victim was likely beaten unconscious and dragged at the intersection.
"The victim had been severely beaten," Brian Kee, with the Jacksonville Sheriff Office Major Crimes Unit, said. "We have this video captured on our real-time crime center but the video was so graphic we cannot release it, it is horrendous."
Police have released a picture of the van used in the crime and police need the public's help identifying the vehicle.
"We have yet to be able to speak to the victim because of his injuries," Kee said.
JSO has identified the victim but has not yet released his identity to the public. They are now looking for the suspect or suspects of the crime.
Residents along 36th Street say they are tired of the crime. Some can't afford to move but others like Eric Washington have had enough.
"It is ridiculous," Washington said. "I can tell you that. It is repetitive, constantly something. I am fixing to move, myself."
