JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person is dead with another is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting occurred Wednesday morning in the East Arlington area, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
Officers responded to the 1100 block of Blue Sky Way approximately around 9 a.m. and found an unidentified person dead, along with a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where she has also been cooperating with police.
Police say the shooting happened inside of a house in the neighborhood and that the victims and suspect are believed to have known each other.
Police were unable to say what led up to the shooting. According to court records, police have been at the home for past domestic issues.
JSO's Sergeant Reeves also said that children who live there were with a babysitter at the time. It is unclear whether the children and babysitter were at the home during the shooting.
Daralene Gonzales lives right next door to the home where the shooting took place and knows the family. She talked with the injured woman after the shooting.
“Yeah, I was really surprised. Like any couple, they have ups and downs, but we were all in shock, especially because of the two little kids. But she is fine now, she is stable and we care about here as a mom and the kids are in good hands," Daralene Gonzales, a neighbor, said.
JSO's Crime Scene and Homicide units were on scene processing evidence.
