JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A student was shot during a fight at the Tulsa Welding School in the 3500 block of Southside Boulevard Tuesday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police said at 2:30 p.m., they responded to a parking lot at the school and found an adult male, in his early 20's, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
An investigation revealed the victim and suspect were involved in an argument between "multiple individuals," which evolved into a fight. This is when the victim was shot by the suspect, according to JSO.
Multiple shots were fired, but the victim was only struck once. He was treated for the gunshot wound to the abdomen, which was not life threatening.
Everyone involved was a student at the school, JSO said. The suspect is 6'5 and wearing a welding outfit.
Parts of the campus were blocked by crime scene tape Tuesday afternoon.
The school was on lockdown earlier in the day, Regional Campus President Michael Cole said. However, the lockdown had been lifted by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and the school planned to return to class at 5:30 p.m.
Cole says between 100 and 200 people were in the building at the time.
