Baptist South on lockdown after police officer shot; officer is stable

The incident was not an active shooter and there is no danger to the community, says JSO.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is on the scene of an officer involved shooting outside of Baptist Hospital South.  An officer has been shot. 

He is in critical but stable condition, according to officials.

The incident was not an active shooter and there is no danger to the community, says JSO.

A hospital spokesperson said there was some sort of incident in the parking area, and that all patients and team members are safe. The hospital is on lockdown as a precaution. 

Full statement from Baptist South:

"There was an incident outside of #BaptistSouth late this evening. Security noticed a suspicious person outside the hospital and notified the campus off-duty police officer. The officer called (JSO) for additional support. Baptist South went on lockdown for the safety of our patients, visitors & staff. The hospital is on lockdown until we receive the all-clear from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.  All patients, visitors and staff are safe."
