PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla — A 17-year-old was arrested Monday in Daytona Beach after two men were found shot, one of them in the head, in Palatka in September.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office and Palatka Police Department responded to the intersection of Moseley Avenue and Reid Street on Sept. 23 after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head. He was airlifted to a trauma center.
While securing the scene, the police department learned of a second individual, a 22-year-old man, who had arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was also transported to a trauma center.
Police later identified the shooting suspect as 17-year-old Palatka resident Travis Kemp Jr. The department said Kemp has an "extensive past in violent crime within our community and neighboring areas."
Officers obtained an arrest warrant on Monday for Kemp's arrest for aggravated battery with a firearm and firing into a vehicle. He was taken into custody Monday by the US Marshal's Service and Palatka detectives after being located in Daytona Beach.
Police said Kemp was also involved in a shooting incident in St. Johns County. He's been charged as an adult in both cases.
