LAKE CITY, Fla. — A man is facing multiple charges after an altercation ended with a drug trafficking arrest Sunday afternoon, according to the Lake City Police Department.
Around 3:30 p.m., officers received a call from a woman who said she was being chased by a man in a car with a handgun, a news release states.
The victim told police she shares children with the man, identified by police as 39-year-old Monterrence Williamson, and the two got into an argument when she was leaving a residence with the children.
Police noted the victim and Williamson had gotten into recent arguments regarding the children.
The victim said as she was placing the children in her vehicle to leave, she saw Williamson inside a white Chevrolet Impala holding a handgun. Police said Williamson had threatened the victim earlier that day.
The victim immediately drove to the police department parking lot while on the phone with law enforcement to seek safety, according to the release.
Police said Williamson was found at his apartment and tried to escape, but was ultimately taken into custody.
Law enforcement requested a search warrant at Williamson's apartment for the handgun used in the alleged assault. After the execution of the search warrant, police discovered a handgun, more than 2.5 pounds of cocaine, scales and cash.
Williamson was taken to the Columbia County Detention Center and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, trafficking in cocaine, possession of drug equipment and resisting an officer without violence.
