GILCHRIST COUNTY, Fla. — The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office is investigating two separate shootings that happened at Ginnie Springs over the holiday weekend, according to an update Monday.
The sheriff's office said deputies responded to one overnight shooting Friday and a separate shooting overnight Saturday. No details on possible victims were immediately provided.
The sheriff's office previously said Sunday afternoon that deputies were on scene investigating an "attempted murder" at Ginnie Springs between Devil's Spring and a tube launch that happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, adding they were looking for one "outstanding subject that was involved."
However, the sheriff's office said in a later update they were "no longer seeking the identity" of the subject, who was described as a woman in her early 20s.
"No additional details are being released at this time to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigations," the sheriff's office said in an update on Facebook.
Ginnie Springs told First Coast News it would not comment on the situation.
Multiple agencies responded to assist in both shooting investigations, including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Highway Patrol, the 8th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office, among others.
"The men and women of GCSO and their neighboring law enforcement agencies have worked tirelessly, around the clock, for days on end to investigate these horrible crimes and to bring those responsible to justice," the sheriff's office said.
Ginnie Springs announced on social media Sunday morning that the park was temporarily closed, though its website said Monday morning it was open, but for daily admissions only. It added that "normal operations" would be resuming Tuesday morning.
The Ginnie Springs website says Memorial Day weekend is an "adult weekend with a party atmosphere" that is not recommended for children.
Despite the busy holiday weekend at Ginnie Springs, no drownings were reported, according to Gilchrist County Fire Chief James Campbell.
First Coast News reached out to the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office for more details on the investigation and is waiting to hear back.
Anyone with information on the incident, knows the identity of the subject described or witnessed the incident is asked to contact Lieutenant Rebecca Cumbie at (352) 463-3410.
