Police: Glynn County employee arrested for stealing $290,000 using work credit cards

The Glynn County Sheriff's Office says Public Works Employee William Richards, 50, unlawfully used his County-issued credit card for "personal gain."

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — A Glynn County employee was arrested Monday after he stole thousands of dollars using County-issued credit cards, according to the Glynn County Police Department

50-year-old William Richards is facing charges after police say he stole $290,000 using his and other employee credit cards for "personal gain." Police say they began investigating Richards after County officials noticed "suspicious transactions" on his and other employee credit cards. 

Richards was interviewed by police and based on the investigation and his own admission, was arrested and charged with theft by conversion, in excess of $290,000, according to police. 

 The GCPD and the District Attorney's Office are working to determine the full extent of Richards crimes and the investigation is ongoing. Richards has worked with the Glynn County Public Works Department since 2010.
