JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A K-9 with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office apprehended a suspect wanted for multiple robberies after the man took officers on a chase Thursday afternoon, JSO said.
JSO said they were searching for a 22-year-old man Thursday they believed was guilty of multiple robberies, one involving an elderly man on a walker May 11.
Around 12:30 Thursday afternoon, JSO said another robbery took place by a man who fit the description of the suspect. JSO said this robbery occurred on Hyde Park Road and was the most recent robbery by the suspect.
JSO said they located the suspect around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of Niblick Drive. JSO said the suspect ignored multiple commands to stop, and even avoided capture after being tased.
The man then reportedly leaped over a fence and hid under a house at Niblick Drive and Lexington Avenue. As officers formed a perimeter around the house, JSO said the suspect fled again, ignoring more commands to stop.
This is when JSO says Sgt. Sames fired his gun at the suspect, missing him as he cleared another property fence.
JSO says Sames, a 13-year employee of JSO, was wearing a body camera but it was not activated during the chase or shooting.
The suspect was eventually captured by K-9 service dog 'Valor,' who was repeatedly kicked in the head by the suspect, JSO said.
The suspect was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained by the dog's bite and then taken to the Duval County Jail.
JSO said they are investigating eight felony cases involving a similar suspect description as the 22-year-old man in this incident. JSO has already connected the man to three robberies and one burglary in addition to the robbery charge warrant he was originally sought for Thursday.
