JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A traffic stop ended in a crash along a busy Jacksonville roadway Wednesday afternoon.
Florida Highway Patrol used a pit maneuver to cut off a car that initially sped away on the Arlington Expressway.
“It was close," said Raphael Colley, who witnessed the scene on his way to work. "Very close, and scary.”
Colley’s Wednesday commute was anything but normal.
“Didn’t know to duck or keep driving," said Colley.
A trooper pitted a tinted car right in front of his work at Patterson Cremation & Funeral.
Colley says the trooper had a gun drawn and was yelling instructions at the driver.
“I actually looked at the suspect’s car," said Colley. "It was pointing my direction. If he wanted to return gunfire, I’m sure I would’ve been hit.”
That’s when Colley started filming.
The video shows a K-9 barking as troopers begin searching the stopped car.
Florida Highway Patrol says a trooper tried to pull over the driver for illegally tinted windows.
FHP says the driver took off, which started what the agency described as a short chase before a PIT maneuver ended it.
A spokesperson for the department says one person was arrested who already had an outstanding arrest warrant.
“Just fortunate that things didn’t go worse than they did," said Colley.
An FHP spokesperson said he wasn’t aware of anything suspicious found in the car.
