Person in police custody after alleged robbery in downtown Jacksonville

Police say the person accused, physically hit an unidentified man after demanding money to which the man refused. The suspect then allegedly robbed the man and fled.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A person is now in police custody after an alleged robbery took place in downtown Jacksonville Tuesday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers responded to 600 East Adams St. around 7:30 p.m. about a robbery to an individual. Police say the alleged suspect physically hit an unidentified man after demanding money to which the man refused and said no. The suspect then fled the scene shortly after taking the money from the man.

JSO's Sergeant Lloyd says officers were able to arrest the suspect near where the incident happened after the man gave a description of the person of interest. Lloyd also states that the sheriff's office initial investigation reveals that the suspect and man are acquaintances and were in a dispute recently.

This is an ongoing investigation.
