Pedestrian lying in road killed during fatal hit-and-run in Lake City

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a pedestrian was killed in a fatal hit-and-run in Columbia County.

Authorities are searching for the driver of a sedan who allegedly ran over and killed a pedestrian in Columbia County early Saturday morning while the victim was lying in the road.

Just after midnight, an unknown sedan was driving northbound on US-41 when the driver ran over a pedestrian who was lying in the northbound lane in front of Club Rodeo in Lake City, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The vehicle continued to travel north on US-41, according to FHP, and the pedestrian, 45-year-old Willie Chrome of Starke, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are asking for the community's help in identifying both the driver and the sedan.

There is no information on why Chrome was lying in the road.
