PALM COAST, Fla. — Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies were able to administer Narcan to a man who ingested heroin mixed with fentanyl, saving his life Sunday evening in Palm Coast.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were conducting a traffic stop in Palm Coast's P section after a vehicle weaving in and out of traffic and struck a mailbox.
The driver of the vehicle, Stephen MacNeil, began to have a medical episode, the agency said. Deputies administered Narcan and began life saving measures until relieved by emergency medical personnel from Flagler County Fire Rescue.
MacNeil regained consciousness and refused additional medical treatment and told deputies that he had purchased heroin in Daytona Beach. Some heroin was still in his vehicle inside a cigarette pack with deputies finding 2.2 grams of a whitish-blue powdery substance that tested positive for fentanyl, the sheriff's office said.
MacNeill was charged with DUI, leaving scene of a crash involving damage to property and fentanyl possession.
“We see time and time again the effects of Fentanyl,” FCSO Sheriff Rick Staly said in a press release. “This time our deputies prevented loss of life but driving under the influence of Narcotics will land you in the Green Roof Inn every time.”
