Orange Park man arrested after deadly hit-and-run crash in Clay County

Kent Necessary, 28, faces charges of driving while license is suspended, resulting in death/serious injury and failing to stop at crash involving death.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Update: Necessary's bond has been set at $150,006. If he posts bond, he is required to wear a GPS monitor and is not allowed to drive.

An Orange Park man was arrested after a pedestrian died in a hit-and-run incident Sunday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says around 10:39 p.m. Sunday, a red Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 28-year-old man now identified as Kent Necessary, was traveling northbound on Park Avenue near Eldridge Loop. A 64-year-old Jacksonville man was not in the crosswalk, FHP's crash report states, as he was walking in a western direction across the northbound lanes of Park Avenue.

FHP says Necessary's pickup truck then collided with the Jacksonville man. Necessary then fled the scene, traveling north on Park Avenue, according to FHP.

The Jacksonville man was taken to Orange Park Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP, as Necessary was located and placed under arrest. FHP did not release the Jacksonville man's identity; the crash report indicates that his family has not yet been notified.

FHP says Necessary was booked into the Clay County Jail, where he faces charges of driving while license suspended, resulting in death/serious injury and failing to stop at crash involving death. FHP also says an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
