One of St. Augustine DUI crash victims is Flagler College student

Two women were critically injured when they were hit by a 21-year-old suspected of DUI near the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — One of the two women hit by a woman suspected of DUI in St. Augustine Sunday morning is a local student. A spokesperson for Flagler College confirmed the woman attends the school. As of Monday, both women were still in the hospital in critical condition.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday along Avenida Menendez near the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. The St. Johns Sheriff’s Office said 21-year-old Shannon King was speeding up Avenida Menendez when she hit the two women on the sidewalk and continued to travel into the parking lot of the monument.

King took out a parking kiosk and a parking sign before coming to a stop. She was arrested and now faces multiple DUI charges.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing any details about the victims at this time. This remains an active investigation.
