One dead, two injured in Southside Jacksonville shooting near night club

The shooting occurred around 2:45 a.m. Sunday in the 6300 block of Philips Highway. Police found the men lying in the roadway and several cars struck with bullets.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Three men were shot near a nightclub on Jacksonville's Southside early Sunday. Police said one of those men has died and the other two were taken to the hospital. Police were dispatched to the 6300 block of Philips Highway at around 2:45 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Officers arrived to find the three victims on the ground in the roadway. Police say their preliminary investigation indicates the shooting could have been a drive-by as several nearby cars were struck with bullets. All of the victims are in their early 20s, police said.

Officers have detained several witnesses who are cooperating, police said.

The identities of the victims were not released.
