JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One man is dead and another man is recovering at a hospital Tuesday morning after both were shot during a "narcotics" transaction Monday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO's Sergeant Catir says at 9:30 p.m. Monday, patrol officers responded to a shooting in the 5600 block of Evergreen Place. While en route, Catir says an additional call went out of a person shot in the 300 block of East 48th Street.
When officers arrived in the 300 block of East 48th Street, JSO says they found a man in his 20s who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Police say first responders with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and took him to a local hospital where he is currently in critical condition.
When officers arrived at Evergreen Place, Catir says they found a man in his 30s who was the initial 911 caller and a man in his 20s. JFRD responded to the scene and pronounced the man in his 20s, dead inside of a vehicle, according to Catir.
JSO says the man in his 30s "possibly went to purchase narcotics from known individuals," and "at some point," an argument occurred and a firearm was produced. A struggle over the firearm left the two men shot, the sheriff's office says.
JSO's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit detectives responded to the area and are conducting an active investigation.
Police did not release the identity of all three men, but told First Coast News that the man who called 911, was involved in the struggle, was involved in the shooting, and is being interviewed at the Police Memorial Building in Downtown Jacksonville.
