The mug shot and arrest report of Stephen Holzbacher, the suspect in a shooting at an East Arlington residence that resulted in a SWAT operation, was released Friday by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The arrest report says Holzbacher, 33, entered his neighbors' home through the garage in the 12200 Country Cove Ct. Thursday afternoon holding a piston wrapped in a blue shirt or towel. He then pointed the weapon at his two victims, father and son Robert, 64, and Abraham, 26, Bibeau, and said "I'm tired of you [expletive] with me," according to the arrest report.
"He pointed the gun at my son and started shooting at him," said Robert Bibeau. "I heard 'pop!' I thought I dropped something. I turn around, he's standing there."
Holzbacher began shooting, striking Robert in the leg and Abraham in the left side of his chest. A third victim, Sophia Bibaeu, tried to leave the home but was pushed back inside by Robert. Sophia was not struck, but a bullet struck the door she exited and entered the residence, according to JSO.
The reason for the shooting remains unknown, but the arrest report says Holzbacher and the Bibaeus argued several months ago after the suspect's dogs attacked the victims' dogs.
After the shooting, the victims escaped and were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Holzbacher sealed himself in the home, prompting a SWAT operation that lasted over two hours, according to JSO. The suspect eventually left the home and was taken into custody.
“They started to say that he needed to come out with his hands up and a whole bunch of other stuff and we saw people come out that were shot," said witness Viviana Morales. "I literally watched them walk down the concrete and it was really scary because it was just me, my grandmother, and my little sister. And my little sister is not even three yet.”
JSO Lt. Steve Mullen said during a media address that deputies communicated with the suspect by phone while he was inside the residence, and that the suspect said things that were "unusual," leading officers to believe he may have been impaired or under the influence.
"It's an eye-opener. It's such a shocker because this is something he'd never do. He's always been so nice," said Morales.
Robert and Abraham were discharged from the hospital Thursday night. The older Bibeau said he's reported Holzbacher to police months ago for escalating problems.
"Being threatened he'd kill me, police did zero -- nothing," Bibeau said.
Abraham Bibeau said he's lucky that the first shot, aimed at his head, failed to go off.
"I looked at him, the gun was pointing at my head. Then he pulled the trigger -- it didn't go off," Abraham said. It was a lucky shot for me. It didn't work."
Holzbacher had his first court appearance Friday and has been charged with attempted murder.
