DOJ: Mexican man sentenced to 10 years in prison after trying to sell meth at Jacksonville restaurant

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Mexican man has been sentenced to 10 years and 1 month in federal prison for possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, a Department of Justice press release said. 

Andrez Galarza Miranda, 51, pleaded guilty on Sept. 29, 2023, according to court records, and is from Mexico.

On May 6, 2022, Miranda planned to sell 15 pounds of methamphetamine to a confidential informant outside a Jacksonville restaurant. Upon arrival to the agreed upon location, a traffic stop was initiated by authorities and the meth was found.

The release Miranda was on supervised release after having served 18 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute marijuana and more than 5 kilograms of cocaine, and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking. 

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta, the release said.
