JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: Jan. 15, 2024

Michael Brockway has pleaded guilty in federal court for using his cellphone and the internet to entice a 13-year-old girl for sex. His sentencing hearing is pending.

A Mayport sailor was arraigned in federal court Thursday. United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg returned an indictment charging Michael Buck Brockway, 39, with using his cellphone to try to lure a "minor child" into sexual activity.

He was arrested on July 28 after he allegedly was speaking with a child for eleven days.

Police records show he was booked into the Duval County Jail August 22 after he was accused of possessing over 110 images of child sexual abuse on his phone.

If he is convicted on his federal crimes, Brockway faces a penalty of between 10 years and life in prison. If he serves time in prison, he could face a lifetime of supervised release when his sentence is over.

He will be detained pending trial.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and the FBI.
