Man shot while walking in New Town area

No suspect information was provided by police and no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is recovering in the hospital after he was shot while walking in Jacksonville's New Town area Monday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to Tyler Street and West 1st Street in reference to a person shot.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, a man in his 50s, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the back. 

The victim was taken to the hospital and is listed in non-life-threatening condition, according to police.

The initial investigation shows the victim was walking in the area when he was approached by an unknown individual who shot him. Police believe the victim and suspect know each other. 

No suspect information was provided by police, and no one has been arrested.
