JSO: Man shot while hanging out in parking lot of shopping plaza on Jacksonville's Westside

Police say the shooting happened in the 5200 block of Normandy Boulevard and that the man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is recovering at a local hospital after he was shot in the parking lot of a shopping plaza on Jacksonville's Westside Monday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Richardson says at approximately 1:05 a.m., officers responded to the 5200 block of Normandy Boulevard in reference to the man who was shot.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

"The initial investigation revealed the victim was hanging out in a parking lot with a group of unknown individuals," Richardson said. "While doing so, a single shot was fired which struck the victim in the abdomen."

JSO says detectives responded to the scene and canvassed the area for video surveillance, and due to witnesses leaving the scene after the shooting happened, Richardson says "we have limited information to provide at this time."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
