JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Selwyn Hall, 57, was shot and killed following an officer-involved shooting that happened late Tuesday night, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reports.
According to JSO, an officer was called out to the 300 black of E. 19th Street in reference to a domestic violence call, but when the officer arrived, the suspect had fled the scene. Hall was in violation of a 2015 permanent injunction for protection and JSO intended to follow up for a warrant for his arrest.
However, 12:36 a.m. on Tuesday, police were called out again by the same victim, stating that the suspect from earlier had returned to the residence, but again, when police arrived Hall was not there.
At 12:57 a.m. Officer Ryan McGee and a female backup officer responded to the residence again and found Hall in a vehicle with the door slightly open in his drive way. Officers told Hall he was being arrested for the domestic dispute from the original call, and gave him instructions to follow in order to arrest him.
Hall became combative and physically resisted the officers. Both officers deployed their tasers, but neither worked. Hall gained control of one of the officer's tasers and officer McGee discharged his firearm eight times.
Hall died on scene.
Officer McGee is a four-year veteran with the Jacksonville's Sheriff's Office and this is his first shooting. He is on administrative leave per protocol. The other office was a female officer, she did not deploy her issued handgun, but she is also on administrative leave.
According to police Hall has had run ins with the police before outside of his domestic violence background with the same victim.
