JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his 60's was hit and killed while crossing the road on Avenue B near the intersection with 45th Street in the Moncrief area of Jacksonville Wednesday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened around 9:40 p.m. JSO says a driver in a red Dodge Charger hit the man identified as Robert Lee Johnson and took off, leaving the scene.
The Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department provided lifesaving measures, but Johnson later died at the hospital.
Sgt. Robert Hungerford with JSO says this is the 80th traffic fatality in the city this year.
