JSO: Man hospitalized after being shot at Jacksonville apartment complex during armed robbery

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the man was robbed of money.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An armed robbery at an apartment complex on Jacksonville's Westside early Thursday morning led to shots being fired and a man hospitalized, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO Sergeant Scott says around 2:15 a.m., officers responded to the 6000 block of Roosevelt Boulevard in reference to a call about the man being shot. When officers arrived, they found the man who is in his early-20s, suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand, according to Scott.

Police said the man was then taken to a local hospital where he is in non-life-threatening condition.

Scott said JSO's initial investigation has revealed that the man was walking in The Park at Marbella Apartment Homes when he was approached by two people who robbed him of money, then shot him one time. After being shot, the man ran to a Circle K gas station, located at 6003 Roosevelt Blvd., to call police, Scott said.

"We do believe there was some type of prior relationship with the victim and suspects," Scott told First Coast News.

The sheriff's office says it does not have anyone in custody at this time related to the incident nor descriptions of the suspects.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
