Man guilty of aggravated assault on Putnam County deputies after declaring 'war' on sheriff's office

Glen Ressler armed himself with 4 firearms, more than 200 rounds of ammo and & a tactical vest after becoming angry with law enforcement for seizing his license.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A man was convicted by a Putnam County jury Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, according to a release.

On Oct. 16, 2022, a Putnam County Sheriff's Office deputy pulled Glen Ressler over and seized his driver's license because it was suspended.

After the incident, the release states Ressler went back to his girlfriend's Interlachen home and demanded she call 911 to report an active shooter because he was declaring "war" on the sheriff's office.

Ressler armed himself with four firearms, more than 200 rounds of ammo and a tactical vest. He fired two rounds outside the home and hid in a nearby wooded area.

The sheriff's office responded covertly in order to avoid a shoot out with the suspect. After an hour, Ressler came out of the woods and was arrested by deputies. No one was hurt during the incident.

Ressler will be sentenced on Oct. 31, 2024. He faces up to 60 years in prison.
