JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man was found shot to death inside a vehicle parked at an apartment complex located off Moncrief Village East Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 4600 block of Moncrief Village East in reference to a person shot.
Upon arrival, officers located a man in his mid to late 20s unresponsive with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle parked at a Moncrief apartment complex.
Crews with the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department pronounced the man dead on the scene.
Members of the State Attorney's Office, JSO's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are conducting investigations at the crime scene. Detectives are canvassing for possible witnesses and surveillance video that could aid in the investigation.
Police do not know if the victim lived inside the apartment complex, or the events that led up to the shooting.
Right now, police have no suspect information or a suspect in custody.
JSO Sgt. Mark Lessard said police cannot rule out if there is an outstanding threat to the community because police do not have a suspect in custody or a motive for the shooting.
"At any point, especially when there's a shooting, and we don't have any suspect in custody, we need to be on alert," said Lessard.
Police believe the shooting occurred during the middle of the day inside a busy apartment complex, and are urging anyone with information to contact them.
Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to contact JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
