Police: Man facing 9 charges after falling asleep at wheel, leading officer on pursuit in Brunswick

Police say while an officer was investigating the traffic incident, Nathaniel Glover, 27, "placed the vehicle in gear and drove off at a high rate of speed."

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A man who is a convicted felon was arrested Saturday afternoon after he fell asleep behind the wheel of a car in the middle of a road and eluded an officer during a traffic stop, according to a Facebook post made by the Glynn County Police Department on Sunday.

Nathaniel Georgeon Glover, 27, is facing nine charges including seven felonies and two misdemeanors, police say.

On Saturday at approximately 3:36 p.m., an officer with the police department approached Glover's vehicle stopped in the road on Golden Isles Parkway (Spur 25) at Walker Road.

While the officer was investigating the traffic incident, police say Glover "placed the vehicle in gear and drove off at a high rate of speed."

The post states that Glover then led the officer on a short pursuit lasting just over two miles; when he exited his vehicle, he had a backpack in one hand, and a "loaded 9mm handgun in the other."

"Mr. Glover attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended and placed in custody after a brief struggle," the post states.

Glover was found with approximately 7.5 ounces of marijuana and Xanax pills in his possession, according to police.

Here are the charges Glover is facing in the arrest, according to the post by GCPD:

  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of Schedule I with intent to distribute
  • Possession of a firearm while committing certain crimes
  • Possession of Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance
  • Possession and use of drug-related items
  • Drugs to be kept in original container
  • Removal or attempted removal of a weapon from a public official
  • Obstructing or hindering a law enforcement officer
