JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local action group is identifying one of the victims from this past weekend's deadly seven shootings.
MAD DADS Jacksonville Chapter claims that Garvin Owensby Jr., 42, was shot and killed on Sunday on West 1st Street. They say his girlfriend was also shot.
According to a Facebook post, the group says that Owensby leaves behind two sons and six grandchildren.
"Owensby was a tattoo artist and a talented drawer -- a gift that was passed on to his sons," they say.
They are calling on the Jacksonville community to break the code of silence and to call First Coast CrimeStoppers with information at 1-866-845-8477.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office did confirm that they are investigating an incident at 2100 block of W. 1st. St. involving two people shot, but have not released the identity of the victim who was killed.
JSO says they responded at 8:40 a.m. on Sunday after reports of a person shot.
Upon arrival, they found a man dead and a woman in life-threatening condition-- both with gunshot wounds.
The woman was transported to the hospital and is being treated.
This marks the second shooting in Jacksonville Sunday and the fourth shooting death this weekend.
“I can tell you there are multiple homicide teams out working on all the different cases we’ve had. We’ll continue to work, we’re not going home until we can come to a resolution and have some of the case facts established," Sgt. Chuck Ford with JSO said.
JSO says there were no signs of a break-in. They say its still unclear who was living in the home.
Police say they needed a search warrant for further investigation inside the home.
