JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Nov. 8 Update: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Lavertis Reed, 20, Friday for the murder of 44-year-old Travis Gettis.
During the investigation, Reed was developed as a person of interest, JSO said. Reed was later arrested and taken to the Police Memorial Building for an interview. After the interview, Reed was arrested for Murder.
Reed was booked Thursday evening.
A man is dead after being shot in Northwest Jacksonville late Wednesday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
At 11:48 p.m., JSO Sergeant Henson said patrol officers responded to the intersection of New Kings Road and Edgewood Avenue regarding a shooting. When they arrived, police say the man was found "with at least gunshot wound."
The man was then taken to a local hospital by members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, according to Henson, as "lifesaving measures were unsuccessful."
"At this time, we do not know the circumstances of the incident or the relationships of those involved," Henson said. "Because of this, the classification of the incident is pending. We will continue to investigate and coordinate our efforts with our partners at the Medical Examiner's Office and the State Attorney's Office."
